Intent Intelligence: Turning Search Behavior into Shared Evidence
Intent intelligence is the data and methodology that organizes search behavior into a structure of what people look for, why they search, and how they choose, allowing humans and AI agents to make decisions based on the same evidence.

Why Search Volume Alone Is Not Enough
Search volume shows how often people search. However, marketing decisions require knowing why they search and what criteria they use to choose. Even for the same search for "dehumidifier," the intent varies between someone comparing prices, someone concerned about mold during the rainy season, and someone looking for troubleshooting tips.
In addition to search volume, intent intelligence analyzes search journeys, related queries, search engine results pages, and AI answers to categorize these differences based on evidence.
Five Data Sources Used to Read Intent
| Data | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Search volume and 48-month trends | Size of demand, seasonality, rapid spikes, and long-term declines |
| Search journey | Prior considerations and what users check next |
| Search query clusters | How people divide categories into mental groupings |
| Search engine results pages | What answers search engines provide for that query |
| AI Overview | Which sources generative AI cites to answer |
15 Intent Elements
ListeningMind organizes a topic into 15 elements. These include 8 decision-making elements that shape purchase decisions and 7 knowledge elements that form common knowledge in that field.
- Decision-making elements: CEP (Category Entry Point), use case, contextual micro-intent, KBF (Key Buying Factor), constraints, numerical thresholds, avoidance factors, RTB (Reason to Believe)
- Knowledge elements: rules of thumb, conventions, baseline expectations, pitfalls, trade-offs, quantitative relationships, attitudes
Each element includes search evidence and an evidence grade, allowing humans writing reports and agents generating answers to use the same foundation. Definitions are available in the Glossary.
Data Coverage by Market
South Korea combines Naver and Google search volumes, along with gender and age breakdowns of users. The United States and Japan use Google data. You can ask the same questions across all three markets using the same framework, enabling comparison of local demand against South Korea prior to market entry.
Where It Is Used
- Topic Library: View pre-built topics across 15 elements.
- CEP Finder: Map purchase situations entering a category.
- Intent KG: Graph elements and relationships within a topic.
- Data API: Systems and agents call the same data directly. Details are available in the API Hub.
Questions
- Does search data reveal individual intent?
- No. All data is aggregated search data. It does not identify individuals, but looks at search patterns left by many people.
- How does this differ from surveys?
- Surveys ask people questions and gather responses. Search data consists of actions people take on their own without being asked. Neither replaces the other, and an efficient approach is to formulate hypotheses using search data and then validate them with surveys.
- How do AI agents use this data?
- They receive elements and evidence via MCP or APIs and cite them as rationale in their answers. Because evidence grades are included, agents can distinguish established facts from hypotheses when answering.
